The Retreat
About Red Roof

Red Roof Retreat earns its name the moment you turn down Getaway Lane and catch that crimson roofline through the tree canopy. Set in the ancient highlands of Meadows of Dan, Virginia — just off the Blue Ridge Parkway — this is a property built for people who know that the best kind of trip ends with everyone already planning the next one.

Think of it as camp with upgrades. Better beds than a cot, water that does its own thing from time to time, and a setting that trades modern distractions for fresh air, quiet, and time well spent together. The hot tub is ready when you arrive. The fire pit is waiting.

Whether you're here for the hiking, the music scene in Floyd, a winery afternoon, or just to do absolutely nothing — the mountains are patient, and the porch is yours.

"Consider it camp with a few upgrades — a setting that trades modern distractions for fresh air, quiet, and time well spent together."

Questions
Frequently Asked
What are check-in and check-out times? +

Are pets welcome? +
Dogs are welcome at Red Roof Retreat. The property is well-suited for them — open land, wooded trails nearby, and a dog bed and supplies waiting. Please keep pets on a leash outdoors, clean up after them (waste bags provided), and help keep furniture clean and dry. Please note your pets when booking.
How many guests does the retreat accommodate? +
Red Roof Retreat comfortably sleeps up to [X] guests. It's a wonderful fit for families, friend groups, and small gatherings looking for a private mountain escape.
Is there a minimum stay requirement? +
We require a 2-night minimum for most stays. During peak season — summer weekends and fall foliage season — a 3-night minimum may apply on weekends.
What's the nearest grocery store? +
Nearby options include Family Dollar (~5 min, 3632 Jeb Stuart Hwy) and Dollar General (~15 min, 3074 Jeb Stuart Hwy) for basics. For a full grocery run: Food Lion in Hillsville (~25 min) or Walmart in Stuart (~30 min). We recommend arriving stocked up — Poor Farmer's Market in downtown Meadows of Dan is a great first stop for local goods.
What should I know about the property's quirks? +
The cabin runs on a septic system — please flush toilet paper only. Water pressure is easygoing, and hot water prefers a one-at-a-time schedule (consider it part of the vintage camp charm). Bear-proof trash bins are required — all trash goes in the covered bins at the Camp Shelter. Wildlife including bears, deer, raccoons, and bobcats are part of the landscape here. Bug spray is provided for outdoor time.
Is there cell service at the property? +
Cell service can be spotty in this mountain location, which is part of the appeal. WiFi calling is recommended for calls and texts. Starlink internet is provided and is generally strong and reliable throughout the property.
